Data:

Weather: sun and hot (29C)

Distance: 85 miles / 136 km

Speed: 13.3 mph / 21 km/h

Log:

First at all I had to fix my faulty connection of my solar panel as no battery at all left. After 3 shops I found a real technician willing to fix it. He took some time but he did! At least I will have some power for continue my blog Winking smile

After that it was already past 11 am and I didn’t even did 2 miles Open-mouthed smile I then started to pulling nice mileage at very good speed as the wind was in my favor!!!! Miracle happen Smile with tongue out I’m following the St Laurent who become larger and larger like a see. It’s quite an amazing river! All along nice small villages with beautiful church and house. I met along the road some nice people (no, no girls today Sarcastic smile) friendly as I expected from Quebecois. Quite nice to have some contact with the local population not like in the western province! And it will get even friendlier heading more East.

I really enjoyed the day as quite traffic, nicer peoples and beautiful landscape. Did a lot of photos and have to skip some time some scenery as I will not advance if I stop every mile / km!

As usual when arriving in a bigger city problem with Hwy is back and as a thunderstorm and no battery on my notebook for check the road I decided to pull out the camp along the road.

I have some battery back on but not much then I hope it will be sunny tomorrow for be back to normal.

Take care everybody!

Camp 38

Hello guys,

The spot for the night was not the best of all my camp but was alright as hidden from the road and not much mosquitos! I guess I don’t have much blood left as they are not interested as before at me Open-mouthed smile

Good night sleep with no squirrels fooling around Party smile

Take care everybody!

Day 38

Hello guys,

Quebec city, je m’en souviendrais…(I will remember it…)!

Data:

Weather: as usual sun and hot (29 C)

Distance: 93 miles / 149 km

Speed: 12.2 mph / 19.5 km/h

Log:

First at all I’m really running out of battery as a connector of my solar panel is faulty! I will try to fix it but as it happen of course after I passed all the big city where I could fix it I think it will be hard Confused smile

Yesterday was an amazing day but was tarnish in the end as I have been witness of an horrific bicycle accident of a women who crashed head first just on front of me when I was doing a pause along the road. Man I saw a lot and have as well many bicycle accident but this one was terrible. I don’t know why but she screamed and went to the gravel part of the shoulder and of course with the speed and small tire of a sportive bicycle like mine she went head first on the ground! She was unconscious for few second but came back with of course horrible pain. Her partner called immediately the ambulance and we provide the first aid but her face was badly damaged and she was in horrible pain. By chance a nurse passing by stopped and gave some more help. As it happen quite away from Quebec city it took almost 30 minutes before the ambulance arrive! I think she will be alright but will need some facial reconstruction for sure. I wish her prompt recover and please guy all the time wear an helmet as if she didn’t have one she will be death for sure. Helmet saved my life few time as well and if you think you look ridiculous with it well first we look already ridiculous on a bicycle with our “costume” and secondly better look ridiculous alive that beautiful death!

Difficult now to talk about my amazing day in Quebec city but life go on. I woke up quite early for head on to Quebec city who is the city I really want discover especially the Castle. For one time the access of a big city was quite easy and nice with amazing bicycle road connection along the St Laurent. I had the most difficult climb of all for access to the castle but worth the effort, beautiful! I spent some time around. And like the devise of the Quebec province “je me souviens” (“I remember it”) I will certainly remember my visit to Quebec city as was quite nice. I still prefer Montreal as more active and cosmopolitan. Quebec city is more like a historical city like Edinburgh, Boston, Bruges. I took the ferry to cross the St Laurent as no bridge on the front of Quebec.

After was a nice cyclist road and I crossed some nice people….(girls) Smile with tongue out I really love Quebec city Winking smile

After the cyclist road I went back to the Hwy 132 and what a difference as so quite after the crazy most populated corridor of (Toronto – Ottawa – Montreal – Quebec city). Pulled some nice mileage before that the terrible accident happen! And you know what after as the fatality strike in cycle I almost been hit by a car who went inside the shoulder and graze me at few centimeters! I think he was intoxicated but could be the end as well for me and my Journey across Canada. Anyway I still amaze that I still alive after so many close call!

I’m not a crazy fan of sunset but the one along the St Laurent are quite beautiful! And it getting better as the river become wider like a see.

Found a spot along the road for the night.

Take care everybody!

Camp 37

Hello guys,

Found a spot inside the wood quite away of the road. Was as usual a bunch of squirrel who was fooling around but I’m use to them now. They are wuite smart as as soon I close my tent here we go and when I open it quite Winking smile Very pleasant quite night for a good rest before visiting Quebec city the last big city of the Journey.

Take care everybody!

Day 37

Hello guys,

Transition day!

Data:

Weather: sun and hot (28 C)

Distance: 97 miles / 155 km

Speed: 11.5 mph / 18 km/h

Log:

I started the day with a nice chat with my friend Germain from UK. When I was pulling out the camp some more big ship was cruising the St Laurent. Was quite a nice spot for the camp and had some difficulties to leave it!

Today was a transition day between Montreal and Quebec city that I will reach tomorrow. I pulled enough mileage for be close enough to reach it mid day as for Montreal and have time to visit the city and especially the castle along the St Laurent.

The day started slowly as my “engine” took time to warm up and at mid day I didn’t pulled much miles / km and had to push it later on who was quite nice as my competitive spirit is never far away Winking smile

I crossed some quite nice area with nice houses but some industrial area too who was really not nice!

The road still bumpy but time to time I have some pleasant smooth one. I had to “brake the law” again as one bridge under renovation was not allow to bicycle and normally I had to take a shuttle but imagine a Sunday with all my stuff…no way I just put down my head and cruised across it with some honking  for motivation Open-mouthed smile

Of course later on the Hwy 132 that I follow merged with a bigger Hwy and could not use it and had to take some back road Baring teeth smile But was not to bad and the road was alright.

Even if the Quebecois are the worst driver of all for the moment they still the warmest and friendly. I had some nice meeting with few of them and was quite nice.

Back to the forest for the spot for the camp.

Tomorrow I will reach Quebec city and will take some time to visit it before heading to the last part of my Journey across Canada. Feel strange as of course the goal is to arrive to St John’s and in one piece or almost Open-mouthed smile but it’s more about the Journey and I start to feel is getting close to the end….

Anyway I will enjoy the rest of the Journey until the last second Open-mouthed smile

Take care everybody!

Camp 36

Hello guys,

Perfect spot along the St Laurent river. I was little bit worry about the raising water but I guess we are too far down for that the tide have effect as it didn’t raise. Anyway I pulled as far as possible my tent away from the river. My wonderful day in Montreal finished by a wonderful sunset on the St Laurent. At night some big ship was cruising it but they was moving smoothly and with almost no noise.

Was a perfect spot and night!

Take care everybody!

Day 36

Hello guys,

I’m in love….!

Data:

Weather: sun and hot (28 C)

Distance: 89 miles / 142 km (20 miles / 32 km inside Montreal)

Speed: 11 mph / 18 km/h

Log:

Started the day early for arrive in Montreal around mid day and have time to visit the city. I planned my back road enter to Montreal as you know now all the Hwy close to big city are not allowed to bicycle. But as in France you follow a sign and suddenly you arrive somewhere else because this sign disappear and you headed somewhere else. Happen to me and I arrived on the front of three roads all of course bloody Hwy I can’t take. I pulled back and found back my way to Montreal. After this little diversion the enter to Montreal back the back door went easily as possible as still rocky city traffic! I had a good feeling that I will like Montreal and already I liked the suburb of all these nice individual house with funny stairs. I finally reached downtown and wow I love it! It’s a mix of old and modern style with a business area and old city area. People are quite nicer as well. In more you have the islands on the St Laurent. I’m really in love of Montreal! I went to the Notre-Dame island where is the Gilles Villeneuve F1 circuit and you can even ride on it on bicycle like in Spa Francorchamps in Belgium! And like a little boy I did not 1 but 5 times the circuit Smile with tongue out I know I’m crazy when I’m crossing Canada I’m adding some more miles / km Open-mouthed smile But I had so much fun! After the fifth I had to force myself to go out and visit the others islands. It’s really nice as a cyclist road connect all the islands to the city center. I had really good time in Montreal and as expected it my favorite city and will be back for sure for enjoy it longer and better.

After over 4 hours in the city I have to continue my road and took the Cartier Bridge who’s a big bridge who pass over the St Laurent. Then as usual think became complicated for the exit as even the smaller Hwy are not allowed to bicycle because they merge with the biggest. By chance I asked a gardener and it was from Quebec city where I was heading. We had first a nice chat and after he gave me direction. Was a nice cyclist road for about 10 miles / 16 km along the St Laurent but after back to the Hwy 132 and man bumpy like hell and no shoulder! Back to Paris-Roubaix for the rest of the day!

I stopped as usual just before set up the camp for by food and asked the young lad if the road will be bad like that farer and he told me even worst Confused smile

After these long exiting day I found a very nice spot along the St Laurent on a beach. I was little bit worry about the raise of the river but I putted my tent as far as possible of the river.

I’m quite happy of the day as for the first time what I expected happened and even better! I will be back Montreal as I LOVE YOU Winking smile

Take care everybody!

Camp 35

Hello guys,

Was a very nice spot inside the wood on a soft ground of sponge Winking smile Quite confortable and nice and this green sponge on the floor. Only problem (as it have to be one!) a bunch of squirrels playing early morning for my wake in up Baring teeth smile

I wanted do some night photography but was too much light pollution from the neighbor Sad smile

Very pleasant good night Winking smile

Take care everybody!

Day 35

Hello guys,

Visited the capital city and enter to my “cousin” province!

Data:

Weather: Sun and hot (26 C)

Distance: 103 miles / 165 km

Speed: 12.3 mph / 20 km/h

Log:

Even I was very close to Ottawa and that it’s a well smaller city of Toronto was quite more difficult to arrive in downtown and the parliament area who’s almost the only think interesting. But I made it after and was like to be back in UK and London as the parliament is the same style of Westminster. Took some photos and left to enter at last to Quebec but I guess I took a back door as no sign “ welcome to Quebec” Sad smile I guess I will try to take a picture when I will exit Quebec on the other way maybe it will be the sign. Enter to Quebec it’s like enter a new country as of course they speak French but all is different. The shops are totally different except the nationwide one, signs, Hwy number,… But it’s nice at last to speak French Winking smile

The first 20 miles inside Quebec was quite rock and roll as the road and traffic was terrible! And same bad nasty drivers that in the rest of Canada. They really hate bicycles and don’t want see them on the road! But pity for them as they will have to support me some more time as I ride on the road not on the bloody side walk! They can graze me, scream or what so ever at me I DON’T CARE! And believe me better for them to don’t push my button!

Anyway later on the road became better even perfect with new surface and wide shoulder. The landscape is very nice and remind me Europe one. I met one guy at the gas station from Ontario but Quebecois and we had a nice chat in English first but after he realize with my accent I was speaking French Winking smile

I pulled as much as possible mileage for be close enough to arrive to Montreal at mid day and visit it as it’s one of the city with Quebec city that I really want discover.

Toronto was so-so, Ottawa well it’s like Washington only an administrative city now I want discover the cities where think happen!

I just realize that at this rhythm I’m like 12 day ahead of the schedule Smile with tongue out And believe me I don’t even force it as I do my 100 miles/ 160 km easily and enjoy it! I take a lot of photos along the way as well and take time to talk and meet peoples. It’s just that my body took a rhythm and if I do less of 100 miles / 160 km I feel strange Open-mouthed smile

I found a nice spot for the night inside a forest and will do for sure some night photography.

Take care everybody!

Camp 34

Hello guys,

I wanted find a spot for the night as closer as possible of Ottawa but I almost went to far inside the city but I was “lucky” as I found what they call “green belt” area who is like a park but “wild” one. I don’t know if it was allowed to camp but was no sign or fence then perfect spot for a wild camping camp Winking smile Was quite and far away from the road, Quite and resting night inside the capital city Winking smile

Take care everybody!
